About The Broken Hill Book Company
The Broken Hill Book Company was formed to participate in the responsible recording of history of Broken Hill and the Far West District. Our staff are all Broken Hill residents and A groupers, experienced in media and journalism, and share a passion to record and write the stories of Broken Hill’s history.
Our first book produced is Barbara De Franceschi’s ‘Strands’, a second expanded edition for the well known local ‘arid zone’ poet.
In production currently is ‘Pubs, Publicans and People of Broken Hill and the Far West’ by Emily McInerney, which is the first book in the ‘A Hill of a Life’ Series. We aim to launch this later this year.
Future books in this series will focus on Police, Schools, Religion and other interesting parts of Broken Hill’s history. A website online library of photos and videos will accompany each book produced.
Our experienced Broken Hill Book Company team all worked together previously at the Barrier Daily Truth newspaper. Not so long ago this team were prepped to take on the executive roles at the BDT as part of a takeover bid which featured on ABCTV’s Australian Story, called ‘Fight for the Truth’. As the takeover didn’t go ahead the team turned their focus to books and history.
